Napa Microsystems Workshop 20172017-08-21 - 2017-08-23Napa, California The fourth workshop in the Transducers Research Foundation's Napa Institute Series The 2017 Napa Microsystems Workshop is the fourth workshop in the Transducers Research Foundation's Napa Institute Series. This west-coast workshop shares a common heritage with the TRF's highly-regarded Hilton Head Solid-State Sensors, Actuators, and Microsystems Workshop. The spirit of these workshops is to provide ample opportunities for discussion and networking along with a technical track of the highest quality. This year, the organizing committee has arranged for plenary presentations from acknowledged experts on emerging topics in optomechanics, nonlinear and nonreciprocal microsystems, topics which are well-aligned with major funding initiatives at DARPA and the NSF. These topics are highly relevant because the MEMS community is reaching the limits of linear operation across all frequency and size-scales. Drawing inspiration from recent breakthroughs in nonlinear photonics that have benefited fundamental and applied research and have had important commercial impact, we believe that nonlinear and nonreciprocal microsystems may have the same impact in the next five to ten years.
