MEMS Technology Summit

2010-10-19 - 2010-10-19
Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA
25 Years in Perspective - Lessons from the Past and Vision for the Future

Join MNX at this event

MEMS has become an important technology. The market pull of government-funded R&D supporting defense, and biomedicine fueled initial development. Commercial successes in process control, defense, and military/aerospace heightened interest. MEMS sensors enabled fuel economy, pollution and safety improvement in automobiles. Disposable blood pressure sensors were a notable early success. MEMS redefined imaging and printing. Today, an avalanche of consumer applications such as accelerometers, RF filters, microphones and gyros in cell phones, gaming devices, and cameras touch us closely. MEMS birthed a baby brother: nanotechnology (NEMS).

MEMS products have birth pains; product introductions require expert care. The Conference will provide perspective on lessons learned from past academic and industry developments, and provide a vision for the future.

MEMS is an embedded technology. Few fully realize its ubiquity. The global prospects for MEMS and NEMS for the next 25 years are stunning. MEMS sensors could reach a trillion units by 2025. MEMS is creating a foundation for personalized health care, communications, and entertainment that is rewriting global social behavior, improving the quality of life, and extending lifespan.

Successful battle-scarred, veteran MEMS technologists will share their 25 years of experience, and their future vision for MEMS and Nanotechnology. Together we will celebrate of the stunning success and bright future of MEMS.

There will be fun and serious MEMS networking as well with tours of Stanford MEMS labs, three evening events, and some surprises. Come to Silicon Valley this fall. Great weather! Spend a few days networking and thinking deeply about the future of MEMS.
