Overview

I welcome inquiries for a post-doctoral position in the Tissue Microfabrication Laboratory in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA). My laboratory seeks to understand how cells sense their microenvironment and response to adhesive, mechanical and biochemical cues. To probe these questions in novel ways, my group has developed a repertoire of micro- and nanofabricated tools to control and measure the adhesive and mechanical environment of cells. I am seeking an expert in the physical sciences who can actively engage with scientists trained in other disciplines (cell and molecular biology, medicine, and engineering). Candidates would translate their skills to develop new tools to manipulate cell functions at the micro- to nanometer level.

Requirements

Ph.D. in the physical sciences or related engineering field with specialization in micro- or nanofabrication techniques. Individuals with an aptitude for interdisciplinary work are highly desired. Must have training in a clean-room environment and expertise in various nano- and/or microfabrication equipment. Experience in computational modeling, image analysis, micromechanics, microfluidics, biomaterial testing, and/or cell culture techniques are a plus.

Responsibilities

The post-doctoral fellow will develop novel micro- or nano-tools for studying cell biology, contribute scientifically to grant applications, and help train graduate students and other post-doctoral fellows in micro- and nanofabrication.

Application

Please send your coverletter, curriculum vitae, and any published papers or manuscripts in preparation to Elaine Jenson (elainej@seas.upenn.edu), assistant to Christopher S. Chen, M.D., Ph.D. PDF format preferred.
