Overview

Requirements

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must be comfortable working in a Class 100 cleanroom. Knowledge of safe handling procedures for liquid chemicals and compressed gases is a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The applicant should have a strong background in silicon MEMS design and microfabrication techniques, preferably with a large background in Nanofabrication. Extensive understanding and hands-on experience with micromachining processes with a broad range of experience in CMOS-like technology is required. Successful candidates will have ample relevant experience in photolithography, wet and dry etching, DRIE, focused ion beam milling, thin-film deposition, thermal processes, metrology, etc. The candidate must also have experience in using MEMS design tools such as Matlab, AutoCAD, L-Edit, Coventor, etc. Knowledge of planning and executing DOE and utilizing SPC methods is also a plus. Demonstrated experience of transferring a MEMS or Semiconductor product from research to successful manufacturing is a greatly desired. Applicants with knowledge of operating AFMs are preferred. The applicant must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants should possess an MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or in a related field, with 5 years of hands-on micro- or nanofabrication experience.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Nanoprobe Development Engineer is a seasoned, experienced engineer responsible for development of new AFM probes using a full understanding of industry practices. The engineer will have a diverse scope and work as an active interface between the AFM system manufacturing and probe manufacturing teams, resolving a wide range of issues in imaginative and practical ways to solve problems that are important to Veeco. The engineer will participate in team-based research and development, interacting with other probe development and manufacturing engineers, AFM scientists and engineers, marketing and customers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The engineer’s primary role will be to develop highly specialized AFM probes and transfer them to production by developing technology, providing necessary training and documentation to the production team.
