The California Institute of Telecommunications & Information Technology [Calit2] houses a state of the art Clean Room facility meant for research in the area of Physical & Engineering Sciences. Under direction of the Clean room manager, the incumbent will become a key player in advancing the nanofabrication and characterization technologies for the Nano3 facility. Requirements

* Must have an advanced degree in electrical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or physics and at least 5 years work experience in materials and device processing, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. * Fabrication techniques: Electron-beam lithography, Photolithography, Resist processing, wet etching, Dry etching (reactive ion etching, inductively couple plasma etching), Chemical vapor deposition, Sputtering, Electron-beam evaporation. * Materials analysis techniques: Scanning electron microscopy, Scanning probe microscopy, Contact profilometry, 3-D optical profilometry, Film stress measurement. * Demonstrated ability to function as a research collaborator with faculty investigators and other research team members. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Skill in communicating clearly, effectively, tactfully, and patiently in person, on the phone and in writing to a diverse population. * Competence and willingness to work with toxic and pyrophoric gases, liquids, and solids required. * Must have experience with relevant processing and analysis techniques, such as chemical processes on surfaces, ultra-high purity process gases (including toxic and corrosive gases), wet chemical and dry processing of materials, plasma processing.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include serving as the specialist for (1) development and characterization of all micro/nano fabrication processes including UV and e-beam lithography, thin film deposition, etching, and metrology, (2) spearheading of the development of innovative nanotechnologies and transfer of such technologies to a large user community of diverse background. Tasks will include the planning for, design of, installation of, and operation and maintenance of innovative nanotechnologies, and of maintenance of and operation of existing technologies in Calit2's nanofabrication clean room laboratory. This laboratory is comprised of state of the art, novel systems and technologies.
