POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

Under general supervision, and with considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the incumbent in this position will report to and be assigned by the School of Engineering Dean, and function as a key member of the School of Engineering Research Centers. The Research Associate will conduct independent research and support scientific computing for research purposes in the fields of nano-materials and

thin film growth, processing and characterization.

Duties and responsibilities include:

- Keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field of nano-materials and thin film growth.

- Independently conducts research related to nano-materials and thin film growth, processing and characterization.

- Leads students and staff in conducting research and analyzing and documenting results.

- Provides researchers and students with computational and technical laboratory expertise for ongoing projects.

- Oversees the research-capabilities associated with research equipment and device fabrication, including high vacuum systems, plasma systems, reactive ion etching, photolithography and wet chemistry.

- Evaluates service contract performance covering repair and maintenance of equipment.

- Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a doctoral degree and demonstrated research ability in a related field. In addition, must have experience working with high vacuum systems, plasma systems, relative ion etching, photolithography and/or wet chemistry. He/She must work well in a team-environment, possess strong organizational skills, attention to details and ability to work under deadline pressure.
