
Senior Fluidics BioEngineerBioNanomatrix, Inc. (San Diego, CA)OverviewThe incumbent will work as a team member in the nanofluidic cartridge group, responsible for the design, prototyping, characterization, assembly, and QC of nanofluidic cartridges. This team is responsible for the development and commercialization of a fluidic nanochannel array device which enables rapid, high-throughput single-molecule fluorescent analysis of DNA for a variety of genomic applications. RequirementsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Technical skills: extensive hands on experience required in executing and optimizing state-of-the-art surface chemistry and molecular biology practices, especially as involves surface chemistry for silicon dioxide surfaces. Experience running and developing biological assays for microfluidics devices, and electrokinetic flow of nucleic acids in fluids. Requires a high level of comfort working with a fluorescent microscope, microfluidic test-benches and biological samples and reagents. Detailed knowledge of fluorescent detection technologies and methods. Communication skills: This position requires a critical thinker with strong organizational skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: *Materials processing and fabrication with regard to microfluidic devices; *Single Molecule/single-fluorophore florescent microscopy; *Knowledge of numerical simulation of fluidic flow and electrical potential in microfluidic devices; *Knowledge of instrumentation automation with Labview. Education and Experience Required: Requires MS or advanced degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, BioPhysics, Physical Chemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a related field. A minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience in biotech, medical device and/or life sciences. ResponsibilitiesPrimary Duties / Responsibilities: *Investigates and characterizes novel sub-100nm channel arrays for DNA analysis; *Develops and characterizes microfluidic chip surface chemistry; *Optimizes the electrokinetic flow properties of extremely long (=100 kbp) DNA molecules; *Works with the reagent team to develop and test fluorescent DNA labeling assays; *Transfers manufacturing and run protocols to Product Development.
