Overview

A Centre for NanoElectroMechanical Systems (NEMS) and Nanophotonics is being set up at IIT Madras, Chennai. The outline of this 5 year project is to: 1) Augment the facilities at the Microelectronics and MEMS laboratory, IIT Madras to extend them to nanoscale from microscale. The facilities created will also be made available to researchers in other organisations. 2)Develop nanofabrication processes for the materials: silicon, GaAs and other III-V compounds, Silicon nitride, Silicon oxide, polysilicon and silicon on insulator (SOI) 3)Carry out material diagnostics in nm scale 4)Design and model nanoscale devices 5)Optimise processes for specific nanostructures like nanocantilevers, nanoporous membranes, nanowires 6) Set up measurements for accurate testing, characterization and reliability

Requirements

As there are many posts, the requirements are varied. Please check the online version of the qualifications required for each post. Marks: 60% or 6.5 CGPA and above in the qualifying degree (except Ph.D.) for all the posts. Project associates/officers will be eligible for admission in the Master of Science (MS by research)/PhD Program - as relevant - subject to the norms and admission criteria of IIT Madras.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will likely in the following areas: Carrying out R&D activities, Developing socially relevant systems especially in agriculture, health and communication sectors, Realising components/devices/subsystems/systems developed into commercial products
