Sr MEMS Engineer

DigitalOptics (Arcadia, CA)

Overview

Senior MEMS engineer

The Senior MEMS Engineer will support the design, development and sustaining of actuators for optical devices according to established product development procedures and protocols.

The ideal candidate will work with internal and external resources to accomplish and develop goals, be hands-on, a self-starter, and work with moderate supervision.

This position will be responsible for the design and development of our MEMS products and will be responsible for the following but not limited to:

  • Expertise in MEMS, data analysis, characterization techniques, and expert problem solving skills;
  • Design and execute FEA simulations and CAD modeling using SolidWorks;
  • Conduct lab experiments for MEMS elements, including debug and measurement equipment operation;
  • Assess MEMS/Plastic Package interactions through experimentation and modeling;
  • Lead, design, develop and the optimization of actuator prototypes;
  • Generate schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions for design, testing and troubleshooting;
  • Specify and qualify appropriate components and equipment based on documented analysis of design specifications, costs, availability and reliability;
  • Generate and release design documentation per product development and document control procedures;
  • Generate and conduct formal verification and validation plans of designs and evolutionary changes to designs;
  • Actively participate in the transfer of products from R&D into manufacturing, and provide regular updates and project status to functional manager and/or project manager.
  • As necessary, performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Ph. D. in Engineering or Physics plus 2-3 years of experience in advanced technology development, or MS in Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering plus 5-8 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of electro-mechanical design experience including product tapeout and evaluation support.
  • Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering fundamentals as demonstrated by past product development responsibilities and successes.
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Modeling and Multiphysics solvers (ConventorWare, Algor, Hyperworks, etc.)
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling with SolidWorks.
  • Advanced laboratory measurement skills (Characterization techniques, Statistical Data Analysis, ...)
  • Design for testability skills (e.g., controllability and observability through test modes, calibration and nulling approaches.
  • Familiarity with quality systems documentation and procedures.
  • Competency in design tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
