The Inertial Sensors Business Unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST) is looking to recruit for its brand Systron Donner Inertial, a specialist in high performance, precision Quartz MEMS, Inertial Sensing Products and Systems for the Aerospace, Defense and Marine markets.

Requirements

Education: Ph.D., or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Physics

Years of Experience: 5 to 10 years of related work experience

Sensor design and packaging experience (inertial sensors a plus)

Electromechanical system design experience (inertial systems a plus)

CAD experience (Pro-E preferred) a must, with all of the analytic tools for vibration, shock, and thermal.

Understanding of mechanical isolation systems to minimize shock and vibrational inputs

Ability to conceptualize new designs from scratch.

Excellent understanding of material properties

Ability to lead a multi-functional team to get results on a schedule

Ability to project new technologies into product designs

Clear track record of innovation

Other Preferred Attributes or Qualifications:

May require special licensing and/or government clearance.

Inertial sensor or system design experience

MEMS sensor design experience

Quartz material design experience

Because this position requires potential access to technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the successful candidate must be a "U.S. person" as defined in the ITAR and EAR. In order to be a U.S. person for ITAR and EAR purposes, you must: (i) be a citizen or national of the United States; or (ii) be a lawful permanent resident (i.e., "green card holder") of the United States; or (iii) have been admitted to the United States as a refugee, or have been granted asylum, provided that you have applied for naturalization within six months of the date you first became eligible, and if not yet accepted, you are actively pursuing naturalization after two years from the date of your application.

Responsibilities

Responsible for performing the most highly complex activities relating to the design, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices. Performs state-of-the-art product development activities. Assignments require the frequent use of initiative and judgment. Provides work leadership and training to lower level professional and technical staff. May require special licensing and/or government clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs highly complex activities relating to the design, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and systems, including Vibrating Quartz rate sensors and accelerometers.

Assignments require initiative, innovation and judgment; developing new or advancing the state of the art in MEMS inertial sensors and related inertial systems:

  • developing, testing and evaluating theoretical designs;
  • using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modeling and computer-aided design;
  • recommending modifications in the light of prototype test results;
  • making sure that the product can be produced reliably and that it will perform consistently in specified operating environments;
  • planning and designing new production processes;
  • developing a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines;
  • discussing and solving complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;
  • managing projects using engineering principles and techniques;
  • considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints
  • working with other professionals, within and outside the engineering community
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
