It may not be an option for your system, but feedthroughs with ferrofluidic
seals can transfer a LOT of torque and angular speed reliably through a
vacuum feedthough.  See, for example, www.ferrotec.com.  With that and a
right angle gear you might be able to keep the motor outside.
