Lately, I have been reading Trimmer's analysis on
scaling laws. It is synopized in Madou's Fundementals
of Microfabrication Chapter 9.

In one figure Madou shows the scaling depedance on
several forces.

He states that van der waals forces scale as
length^1/4. I have been trying to reproduce that
result, but the best I can come up with is a length^-4
dependance on the forces.

Does anyone know the theoretical background on why the
forces scale as length^1/4?

Thanks,

Jeff
