Hi,
We use CoventorWare (formerly MEMCAD) here at Louisville. I have been
very pleased with both the software and the support. Particular features
that are useful: fabrication simulation, coupled solvers for Thermal,
Electrostatics, Inductance, Mechanics and Fluid dynamics. CoventorWare
also has the capability to import and export handy file formats such as
GDSII. In fact I prefer to use the layout tool for actual mask design
instead of L-Edit.
I would say that there are only 2 major short comings with
CoventorWare: 1) Price 2) It is still a little tricky to produce quality
meshes, though one can import them from third party software. It would
be helpful if we could edit the mesh by hand instead of relying on the
automesher.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Hello,
I would like to start a discussion on MEMS CAD tools. Specifically,
there
appear to be 3 leading MEMS CAD tools: IntelliSuite, CoventorWare and
MEMSCAP. I would like to hear opinions of MEMS designers and
fabricators
that have used these CAD tools, especially if you have experience with
more
than one tool. Please, no input from sales people.
I have used IntelliSuite for the past 2 years and have been pleased
with
it. When we have discovered S/W bugs, IntelliSense has been very
responsive at fixing them. Their assistance with design/simulation
problems has been pretty good. I think its capabilities are good. I
like
the fact that you can import mask files to the simulator that were laid
out
with other tools. IntelliSense has continued to improve the tool and
often
releases updates.
Sincerely,
Robert Dean
