I also use DXF file output for mask design, and have found it to be a very
convenient solution. Most mask makers in fact have DXF to GDSII converters, so
they can take DXF input. The one I use is HTA Photomask in San Jose, (408)
259-9595. They also have the ability to get files from E-mail, or by modem. But
I don't know if they would do just a translation for you; more likely they will
want to be making the actual masks! So it may not be the best for MOSIS.
By the way, I certainly do not want to use AutoCAD! Everyone I have ever met
who uses that program warns me how terrible it is; with a command-driven user
interface. I use Blueprint for the Mac, a cheap ( about $200) 2D subset of
MiniCAD. It's PowerMac native, fast, and intuitive. Has layers, unlimited
zooming in, a "duplicate array" command, etc. It exports DXF files which work
just fine to have masks made; perfect for MEMS work.
